Big Brother is watching. What you eat, that is. If you're trying to lose weight--or you're just obsessive about keeping track of your food intake--Philips' Personal Nutrition Coach will tell you exactly what you're consuming, and how bad it is for you. It's currently being tested in three company restaurants in The Netherlands.
Here's how it works: When you swipe a company card to purchase your meal, details of all the food you buy are uploaded to the Personal Nutrition Coach server. You can then check a personalized Web page that contains the nutritional value of your exact meal, including calories, fat, carbs, protein, and fiber. The site can even calculate your body mass index as well as how many calories you take in versus how many you burn. Just make sure you really want to know how much fat is in that banana mocha you consume every day.
The problem with this is that you'd have to eat in the canteen everyday of your life if you wanted to avoid the hassle of tracking your own foods as these guys claim. Hardly a solution! Systems like Wirefile V-Clinic and myfoodphone are already used in canteens as well as on cell phones. Better off going for the guys that have been doing this for years and have real know how as opposed to big corporates like Phillips who are just doing this on the cheap in India - just in case in works!!!
