Pimp Yer Mac

EyeTV Hybrid scaled.jpgMac users, your dreams of building a sweet home entertainment system will soon become easier to realize. New products from Elgato and Griffin Technology allow you to add high-def programming and 5.1 surround sound to your Mac.

Elgato's $150 EyeTV Hybrid plugs into a USB 2.0 port and is capable of receiving and recording over-the-air high-def channels as well as content from a set-top cable or satellite TV box. Meanwhile, Griffin Technology's FireWave box lets you add 5.1 surround sound speakers to your setup. The $100 FireWave plugs into, appropriately, your Mac's FireWire port. The device includes two FireWire ports of its own, as well as three 1/8" stereo minijacks for left/right, center/subwoofer, and left surround/right surround.
